About the Project
Universal Video Speed Controller was created by Danish Ansari out of a personal frustration. While trying to study computer science lectures and tutorials online, many hosting platforms lacked adequate playback speed options (capping speed at 1.5x or 2x, or having no speed menu at all). Existing extensions were either bloated, injected trackers, or required excessive permissions that compromised user security.
The goal was simple: build an extension that does one thing incredibly well—controlling video speed—while maintaining 100% privacy and top-tier CPU performance.
Our Core Philosophy
1. Open-Source Transparency
We believe that code running inside your browser should be completely inspectable. Our extension is open source under the MIT License. You can check the logic, examine the background workers, or compile the build yourself from our repository.
2. Privacy by Design
There are no accounts, cloud databases, trackers, or marketing trackers. Your settings and usage analytics (like your estimated watch time saved) never leave your device. They are saved entirely in local storage.
3. High-Performance Engineering
To avoid slowing down your browser, the extension replaces heavy query intervals with tree walkers and event-driven MutationObservers. The CPU overhead is near 0%, keeping your tabs fluid even when loading multiple video feeds simultaneously.
Support the Project
If the Universal Video Speed Controller has saved you hours of lecture watch time, the best way to support us is by leaving a 5-star review on the Chrome Web Store or starring the project on GitHub. Your feedback helps other students and professionals discover the extension.
